Metaverse, it is believed, is the next version of internet. It essentially means a transition from 2D to 3D and transition with you in it. It will be a shared virtual space with other people. There are challenges to build a metaverse which gives a feel of the physical world. There has to be a sense of physical presence among people who in reality are not in the same room. Quest 2, a VR headset, replicates real life behaviour. To illustrate, the voice of a person sitting opposite you must come from the opposite direction. The gestures and hand movements too must be captured to some extent. facial expressions are to be captured accurately. Even accessories used at one place, say specs, must not disappear at other places.

India has a huge team of IT professionals, and an eco-system which will be helpful in building the metaverse. Metaverse is the collective result of the isolated immersive systems. Metaverse has entered into the consciousness of people the world over.

New prototypes of the VR and AR headsets must be developed and there should be continuous R&D in this area.
