It is a way of delivering apps over the Internet — as a service. It frees the client from complex software and hardware management.
There are some disadvantages of SaaS, say data security, data mobility, integration etc.
Indian SaaS industry has the potential to be valued at $ 1 trillion, and employ 5 lac people by 2030. By the end of this decade, the Indian SaaS companies revenue could reach $50-$70 billion. It provides big opportunity to India.
India has currently 1000 SaaS startups. Indian SaaS firms could capture 4-6 per cent of the global opportunity. To do so, there should be investments in product companies.
TCS will take iON, its IT-as-a-Service model to international market. It is used by small and medium enterprises and educational sector.
