Sabeer Bhatia and Hotmail

Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith launched Hotmail email service on July 4, 1996. It was 27 years ago, and Hotmail was the first email service available to the public. In fact, many were initiated into internet through this product. It disrupted the existing way of communication.

Hotmail’s popularity soared into the 1990s. Microsoft took cognizance and acquired Hotmail for $450 million in those days, the largest all-cash transaction.

According to Bhatia, best tech solves an existing problem and creates a positive disruption. Lastly, it makes the world a better place.

World has marched ahead. This is an era of ChatGPT, Bitcoin, WhatsApp, Zoom, metaverse and VR.

Sabeer Bhatia stays at his home in Los Altos Hills, California. He is currently the co-founder of ShawReel, a video conversation and analytics company. He is fond of AI, and experiments with AI products such as Lumen5. It makes him ready with presentations pretty quickly.

Sabeer Bhatia still retains his Hotmail address but has moved on to Gmail like the rest of us. He is all praise for Gmail which has solved limited storage problem while using Hotmail.
