Simplilearn is Bangalore-headquartered edtech firm that offers boot camps at premiere institutions in India and abroad. It offers 60 programmes right now, and wants to expand to 120 programmes. Its US programmes are offered at MIT, Caltech, Purdue and Wharton. The clientle that takes advantage of these programmes comes from corporates such as IBM, Microsoft and others. In India, the Simplilearn partners with well-known universities that include IITs. Right now, Simplilearn’s 40 per cent revenue comes from the US, 40 per cent from India and 20 per cent from the rest of the world. In the next five years, the company expects to change this pattern — 50 per cent from the US, 35 per cent from India and 15 per cent from the rest of the world. It employs 2400 people. Its partnering with the big names in the US allows it to overcome the challenge of a big brand.
Besides, American companies operate mainly through e-learning. There are recorded lectures and no instructors and problem solving though instructor-led courses is expensive. Instructor-led courses provide better learning and outcomes in the job market. There is live feedback through trained instructors. It enhances learning.
Simplilearn courses have a higher completion rate, say 65-70 per cent. Rivals lag behind with completion rates in single digits. The cost of acquisition of a new learner is low. There is word-of-mouth buzz. There are repeats and referrals.
They have revenue generating and profitable product line. There are many who come to upgrade their skills to stay relevant. It expects a 60 per cent revenue growth year-on-year and is optimistic about the future.
