Achhut Kanya (1936) was Ashok Kumar’s debut movie. He was just working as the lab assistant at Bombay Talkies. He got the role after Himangshu Rai, the producer reconciled with his wife and heroine of the film Devika Rani who had eloped with Najmul Hasan, the leading man. Ashok Kumar’s original name was Kumudlal Ganguly.
