Apple is known for its design innovations and it designed a thin portable laptop in January 2008, a decade and a half ago. It weighed less than three pounds. Steve Jobs, the then Apple chief, inaugurated it by opening a regular office envelope.
The minimalist design was attempted by doing away with the optical CD drive, which though shocking then, became a norm a few years later. Apple’s McBook Air had a single port, unlike multiple ports the other laptops then had. It cost $1799 then, an expensive proposition even by todays standards.
Apple’s design was beautiful, and considering the price, its storage capacity was limited. Yet, the design became a norm for other laptops.
Its market was impressive. It had a lean season for several years. By 2018, experts thought it is the end of the road for MacBook Air.
However, in 2020, it acquired a new lease of life with an M1 processor, and then with M2 processor in 2022. It has got back its glory.
In the meantime, Apple had introduced MacBook Pro while upgrading the MacBook Air.
